The MYBA In Town basketball program aims to provide a competitive and engaging experience for girls and boys of all grades. We feel strongly that this program provides a great environment for learning the game of basketball, competing against your friends, and more importantly, having tons of fun!
Program runs for approximately eight weeks, weather permitting, beginning in early December.
Kindergarten
Our Kindergarten Basketball Program is the perfect introduction to the game for young athletes! Designed to teach the fundamentals of basketball in a fun, supportive, and structured environment, the program allows players to participate in a variety of skill-building drills, ensuring every child gets hands-on experience with key basketball techniques in an age-appropriate, engaging way. Players are grouped by gender and play on 8 foot hoops using junior-sized (27.5") basketballs. The program runs on Saturdays for 8 weeks, with the K Girls playing from 8:00–9:00 a.m. and the K Boys playing from 9:00–10:00 a.m. at Robinson and Jordan Jackson Elementary Schools. (**Session times are subject to change based on program registration numbers). Each participant will receive a junior-sized rubber basketball and an official MYBA jersey to keep.
1st and 2nd Grades
Our 1st and 2nd Grade Basketball Program builds on foundational skills in an engaging, organized, and age-appropriate environment. Players are grouped by grade and gender and play on 8.5 foot hoops using junior-sized (27.5") basketballs. This 60-minute, skill-development-focused program takes place on Saturday mornings and early afternoons at Jordan Jackson and Robinson Elementary School. Each session emphasizes “skills and drills,” helping players build confidence and improve fundamentals through structured activities. Guided scrimmaging is introduced in later weeks as players build confidence and skill. 1st Grade Girls play at 10:00 a.m., 1st Grade Boys play at 11:00 a.m., 2nd Grade Girls play at 12:00 p.m. and 2nd Grade Boys play at 1:00 p.m. (**Session times are subject to change based on program registration numbers). Each participant will receive a junior-sized rubber basketball and an official MYBA jersey to keep.
3rd through 8th Grades
Looking for a fun and competitive way to build basketball skills? Our program for 3rd–8th graders is the perfect opportunity for young athletes to improve their game while enjoying regular game play. Divisions are organized by grade and gender, although some grades may be combined depending on enrollment numbers to ensure balanced competition. Each team has one weekday practice and one game every Saturday. Games are held at Mass Premier Courts with referees officiating. Standings are tracked throughout the season, which concludes with playoffs to determine the season champions. Younger grades use either a 27.5” or 28.5” basketball and play on either 8.5' or 9’ hoop height, whereas older grades play on a standard 10’ height and use a 28.5” or 29.5” basketball. Whether your child is just discovering the sport or looking to take their game to the next level, this program focuses on skill development, teamwork, and exciting game-time experience.
High School Program
This is MYBA’s most popular in town program, and we often get upwards of ~150 players, forming ~15 teams. There are no practices, and games are played on the weekend (usually Sunday evenings). The MYBA provides 29.5” game balls and referees, in addition to team uniforms with local sponsors displayed on the back. Coaches are often former high school stand out players or recently graduated former players. Games are very high paced, fun to play and watch, and culminate with a formal playoff tournament.
